Argyle Legends vs A Dash of Silver XI 2017

Sunday 14th 11 May 2017

Argyle Legends extended their unbeaten run to 9 games when they defeated A Dash of Silver X1 by 3 goals to two in a thrilling encounter at Bolitho Park, the home ground of Plymouth Parkway FC.

It was the Legends who started the brighter of the 2 sides and after only two minutes Darren Garner had a 25 yard effort well saved by the hosts goalkeeper Graham Kimberley.

On a bumpy surface it soon developed into even game with chances at a premium with neither goalkeeper being seriously tested.

After 22 minutes the Legends Joe Davey nearly broke the deadlock with a rasping 25 yard drive that brought a great save out of Alexander.

The hosts were providing a stern test for the Legends, who were indebted to goalkeeper Carl Bradford who kept the scores level in the 34th minute , when he somehow got down to push a 25 yard effort around the post.

A minute later it was Bradley Swiggs who opened the scoring when he shot over the keeper and high into the net.Alexander got a hand to the ball but could not prevent Swiggs from scoring his 6th goal in 2 games.

In the 43rd minute influential midfielder Darren Garner limped off with a hamstring/achilles injury. Before the Legends had time to adjust the hosts equalised to make the score 1-1. Stewert Yetton immediately replaced the injured Garner and joined Swiggs up front with Joe Davey dropping back into midfield.

The hosts had their tails up and almost took the lead on the stroke of half time, but for a magnificent save from Bradford.

The second half started with the hosts on the attack and only a goal line clearance from Shaun Sullivan kept the scores level.

After 49 minutes Davey blazed high over the crossbar after a great move involving 4 Legends players.

In the 53rd minute Swiggs put the Legends ahead, tapping home from close range after being beautifully set up by Yetton.

On the hour it was keeper Bradford who preserved the Legends lead with a point blank save with the home striker through on a one on one situation.

After 67 minutes the Legends replaced Leigh Cooper with Spencer Cooper and 5 minutes later Lee Coxon replaced the hard working David Byrne.

The Legends were slowly getting on top and Alexander made 2 great saves from Swiggs and another from Yetton to keep the hosts in the game.

After 80 minutes the hosts brought on Daniel Silver, the founder  of A Dash of Siiver and he levelled the scores 5 minutes later when the Legends allowed him to run through and score.

In the 90th minute Coxon sealed the victory for the Legends with a tremendous strike from just inside the penalty area, giving the keeper no chance of saving.

A few seconds later the referee blew his whistle for full time to end a very entertaining game.

It was later announced that a sum of £643.25 had been raised for the running of Dashnet, a support group for Males affected by Cancer.
