Argyle Legends vs Chestnut Rovers 2015
Plymouth Argyle Legends kick off the year with a hard earned Draw against Chestnut Rovers
On Sunday 22nd February Plymouth Argyle Legends took on a team made up of supporters of the Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer; Chestnut Rovers in a charity football match at UCP Marjon in Plymouth.
The conditions were atrocious with heavy rain and high winds but the game went ahead and proved to be a very decent encounter ending in a 2-2 draw.
David Squires from the Chestnut Appeal said “It was a shame that the weather was so awful as we had hoped that there would have been some vocal support from the side-lines, but nonetheless it was a great game played in a fantastic spirit”
The match; being played out for the Chestnut Trophy, saw the Legends go 1-0 up after a disputed penalty converted by Paul Smith. That was the half time score and after a quick turnaround due to the conditions Chestnut Rovers equalised through Mark Niland to make it 1-1.
A stunning strike from outside the area by full back Paul Edwards saw the Legends back in front before another equaliser by Chris Saunders saw the match end in a creditable 2-2 draw meaning the Legends retained the Chestnut Trophy.
“We were delighted with our performance against the Legends and the Chestnut Appeal would like to thank both teams for putting in such determination and effort in such trying conditions” said David Squires.
Argyle Legends joint manager Paul Hart said; We are delighted to be involved in raising funds for such a worthwhile charity. Games between the two sides have been close and we look forward to playing them again in September.
Alongside the game the charity held a raffle with which raised over £200 for the Chestnut Appeal .
