Argyle Legends vs DC Plastics 2013
Sunday 21st April 2013
Argyle Legends bounced back from their previous weeks defeat at Troon with a hard fought 3-1 victory over a determined DC Plastics side.
The game played in front of a healthy crowd at Home Park was part of a highly successful Fun Day organised by the Green Taverners.
The Legends made 5 changes from their previous game welcoming back Garry Penhaligon, Mark Saunders, Darren Garner, Owen Pickard and Andy Duncan.
DC Plastics made the brighter start and tested Legends goalkeeper Penhaligon twice in the opening quarter and it came as no surprise when they took the lead in the 25th minute.
The Legends stuck to their pre match plan of rotating their players and immediately brought on Pickard, Mark Damerell and Spencer Cooper for Bradley Swiggs, Mark Rowe and Geoff Battams respectively.
The changes appeared to work as the Legends slowly came into the game with Danny O'Hagan having his shot cleared off the line in the 34th minute.
Three minutes later O'Hagan had his shot well saved by the goalkeeper. However with some determined defending and no little skill it was DC Plastics who lead 1-0 at the interval.
The Legends made 2 changes for the 2nd half with Rowe returning for the injured Ryan Cross and Swiggs returning for O,Hagan.
The Legends were soon on the offensive and equalised 6 minutes into the half when Rowe,s shot from the edge of the area deceived the visiting goalkeeper. Spurred on by this goal the Legends were in front a minute later when Pickard smashed the ball into the top corner of the net from close range.
DC Plastics continued to pose a serious threat and Darren Tallon and Saunders needed to be at their best in the heart of the Legends defence.
In the 60th minute Duncan replaced the limping Tallon and O'Hagan returned for the injured Pickard.
The Legends were slowly taking control of the game with Garner and Rowe becoming influential in midfield and David Byrne a constant threat on the right wing.
With 8 minutes remaining the Legends made the game safe when O'Hagan finished off a fine move involving Garner and Byrne, when he back heeled the ball home from close range.
There was no more scoring and the Legends ran out 3-1 winners.
