Argyle Legends vs Exeter Civil Service 2011

Sunday 12th June 2011

Argyle Legends ended their 2010/11 season with an emphatic 4 - 1 victory against a young but spirited Exeter Civil Service side in a game played in torrential rain at Middlemoor Police HQ.

Any fears the Legends had that they may be outran by their young opponents were unfounded by an excellent display of keeping possession and making the ball do the work.

The Legends supplemented by 3 guest players dictated play from the kick off and went ahead after 11 minutes when guest player Marc Conday scored from close range after his first effort was well saved by the Civil Service goalkeeper.

The home side were finding it difficult to penetrate a well organised defence and debutant goalkeeper Ryan Draper had little to do. The Legends strike force of Marcus Crocker and Conday were combining well and both went close to increasing the scoring in the first half an hour.

The Legends missed a glorious opportunity to increase their lead after 33 minutes when captain for the day Ryan Cross had his penalty brilliantly saved by Civil goalkeeper and man of the match Larry Vinnels. The Legends were well in control and Conday made it 2 - 0 after 40 minutes with a cool finish into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

The rain was still teaming down as the second half started but the Legends were quickly into their stride without seriously testing the home goalkeeper.

On the hour Kevin Nancekivill made it 3 - 0 to the Legends, tapping the ball into an empty net after a great one two with Darren Garner. The same pair were involved after 70 minutes when Nancekivill scored his second and the Legends fourth.

To their credit the home side never gave up and were rewarded in the 74th minute when Noah Jones drilled a penalty past Ryan Draper to reduce the deficit. This seemed to inspire the Civil Service side and one minute later Draper made a great save to prevent what could have been a nervous last 15 minutes.

There was no further scoring as the game ended 4 - 1 in favour of Argyle Legends.
