Argyle Legends vs Foxhole Vets 2015
Sunday 30th August 2015
Argyle Legends extended their unbeaten run to 5 games when they defeated Foxhole Vets by 7 goals to 4 in a entertaining game played in front of a good crowd at Foxhole AFC.
Goals were always likely in a game where the Legends team contained only 3 recognised defenders and the game got off to an explosive start with the Legends scoring twice in the first 8 minutes with goals from Steve Brownlow and Andy Bacon.
The hosts pulled a goal back in the 10th minute when a defensive lapse allowed the the home striker to lift the ball over onrushing goalkeeper Garry Penhaligon.
With Martin Barlow and Darren Garner prominent in midfield it came as no surprise when Bradley Swiggs made it 3-1 after 20 minutes, calmly rounding the keeper before slotting the ball home. Two minutes later Bacon scored his second and the Legends fourth with a close range finish.
The Legends lack of recognised defenders was exposed as the hosts scored twice in two minutes just before half time to bring themselves right back into the game.
The second half started in a similar vein with the Legends lack of defensive cover again proving costly as the hosts made it 4-4 in the 53rd minute.
The Legends were in real danger of losing a game they seemed to be well in control of and were indebted to debutant Jamie Lowry for a couple of timely interceptions as the hosts sensed a shock victory.
The next goal was always going to be crucial and it was that man Bacon who completed his hat trick in the 70th minute, climbing high to head home a superb Damien Davey cross. Five minutes later Garner eased the Legends nerves when he made it 6-4 with a fine finish from just inside the penalty area.
In the 80th minute Mark Damerell put the result beyond doubt when he made it 7-4 to the Legends.
A raffle and auction after the game raised over £5,000 for Cornwall Air Ambulance and the local community playground.
