Argyle Legends made a winning start to 2012 when they defeated a Liskeard Select X1 by 3 goals to 2 in a keenly fought encounter at Lux Park.

The Legends welcomed back Darren Tallon, Ryan Cross, and Marcus Crocker after injury for the game played in memory of former Liskeard chairman Dave "Ticker" Hick.

The Legends made a dream start to the game with Danny O'Hagan scoring after only 3 minutes with a neat finish after a mix up in the home defence.

Liskeard prompted by Darren Gilbert, responded positively and went close on two occasions before equalising in the 18th minute, when a long ball through the middle of the Legends defence was seized on by Dave Walters who coolly slotted the ball beneath Gary Penhaligon.

The Legends responded immediately when from the restart the ball was played to Mark Damerell who scored with a cross cum shot from 25 yards that completely deceived the home keeper to put the Legends 2-1 ahead.

The game was surprisingly open with chances at both ends, before Liskeard equalised for the second time in the 30th minute when Ryan Cross deflected a shot from Dave Wade into his own net. There was no more scoring and the referee blew for half time with the teams level at 2-2.

Argyle Legends made one change for the second period with Spencer Cooper replacing Leigh Cooper in defence.

With the wind at their backs and using the slight slope to their advantage the Legends dominated the first 20 minutes with O'Hagan having 2 headers brilliantly saved and Cross, eager to atone for his own goal, hitting the crossbar from 20 yards.

Liskeard were always dangerous on the counter attack and Gary Penhaligon made a brilliant stop after 67 mins to keep the scores level.

In the 70th minute Tommy Tynan scored what proved to be the winning goal with a fantastic strike from fully 25 yards. With no visible back lift the ball flew past the home keeper for a great finish to give the Legends a deserved victory.

It was announced after the game that £800 had been raised on the day for Cornwall Hospice care at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice.
