Argyle Legends vs Torbay Police 2011

Sunday 11th September
Argyle Legends suffered their first defeat in 5 outings when they crashed to a 3 - 1 defeat against a much younger and fitter Torbay Police side in a game played to raise funds for Cancer & Leukaemia in Children (CLIC).

The Legends minus regulars Darren Garner, Marcus Crocker, Martin Barlow and Darren Tallon were further disorganised by injuries to David Byrne and Ryan Cross within the first 30 minutes.

It was while the Legends were reorganising following the injury to Cross that the home side went ahead in the 28th minute when Rhys Wilmot was left helpless to stop a splendid 25 yard shot which sailed over his head a nestled in the top corner of the net.

With Chris Harrison marshalling a reshuffled back four and Leigh Cooper and Mark Rowe prominent in midfield the Legends were always a threat on the break with Tommy Tynan and Mark Damerell a constant threat up front.

The Legends equalised in the 50th minute with a terrific Tynan header after a fantastic cross from the lively Damerell.

Just when it seemed the Legends might go on to win the game a quick break out of defence by the Police side after 65 minutes saw Harrison handle on the line to prevent a certain goal. Wilmot was given no chance from the resultant penalty.

With Torbay Police sensing a famous victory and the Legends striving for a second equaliser the referee was kept busy as exchanges became heated.

With 10 minutes of normal time remaining and the Legends visibly flagging the hosts increased their lead following another well worked move.

There was no further scoring at Devon FA Headquarters Coach Road ground and it was the home side who were presented with the South West Challenge Charity Cup.

After the game it was announced that £385 had been raised for CLIC.
