Dougie Anderson

(June 20, 2015)

Argyle Legends were saddened to hear of the sudden death of former Argyle winger, Dougie Anderson at the age of 51.

Dougie, who began his career at Oldham, signed for Argyle from Tranmere and made his debut for the Greens on 12 September 1987 in a 3-3 home draw against West Brom. He went on to make 22 appearances in the 87-88 season, scoring his only Argyle goal in a 4-0 home win over Leicester.

After losing his first team place, he had loan spells with Cambridge and Northampton and, after leaving Home Park, signed for the Double Flower club in Hong Kong.

Dougie returned to live in Plymouth and played a number of games for the Legends side. A keen runner, at one time, he played 90 minutes for the Legends on a Sunday afternoon having completed a half marathon in the morning!

A number of former team mates have paid tribute to Dougie’s popularity in the dressing room.

Argyle Legends sends its condolences to Dougie’s family and friends.
