Santos Reunion 2013

Ten of the squad who were involved in that never to be forgotten game against Santos in March 1973 returned to Plymouth last week for an emotional reunion.

Jim Furnell, Peter Darke, Bobby Saxton, Colin Sullivan, Mike Dowling, Johnny Hore, Les Latcham, Alan Welsh, Steve Davey and Derek Rickard were all reunited during two evenings of nostalgia and laughter.
The first event on the Friday 15th March was held in the Green Taverners Suite at Home Park. Sponsored by Tower Cabs, guests were treated to interviews with several of the squad, whilst indulging in food and wine sponsored by Super Doug and St. Austell Brewery respectively. Entertainment was provided by Dave Banana and an auction of photos from the Santos game proved successful. One of the nights highlights was showing unseen footage of that famous game.
On the Saturday the players and seven of their wives attended the famous Fanfest before enjoying a three course meal in the Legends Tribute Lounge prior to watching the game vs Fleetwood Town.
During the half time interval the players left their seats in the grandstand and were paraded in front of the Lyndhurst and Devonport End sides of the ground to rapturous applause from the home fans. With people clamouring for photos and autographs the players just about made it to their seats before the second half began.
On the Saturday evening the players and their wives attended a private function in the Boardroom at Home Park where they were presented with DVD's. Alan Welsh, Les Latcham and Mike Dowling were also presented with Argyle Legends ties whilst the wives were given Plymouth Argyle scarves.
Argyle Legends are indebted and eternally grateful to the Green Taverners for making the weekend a tremendous success.
